after you leave, i let the river take the warmth i stole from you i watch the final bit of snow melt into it like time
you smile like none of this is unusual - you take my hand as if it's made for it wait at the door for one last kiss and tell me to take care of me when you can not
i think my heart was forged in somber catacombs, my dear while yours grew on a tree and fell into the grass as if ripe fruit i think i was perhaps a monkey or a bird looking for something sweet
there’s always something i forget to say i have to keep it safe and locked away until we meet again
